Fly safely and within the law

Our affordable drone insurance reliably protects you under personal liability coverage — for example, if your drone accidentally flies into a parked car. Additional modules and benefits

Drone/copter module in business liability

Extend your business liability policy with coverage for commercially used drones, e.g. for filming, inspection or surveying, up to 25 kg take-off weight.

All-risk cover for the drone itself

If you also want to cover damage to or loss of the drone itself, you can take out a dedicated all-risk policy; liability insurance only covers damage you cause to others.

What is covered

  • Personal liability insurance

Covers damage caused by your drone during leisure use; third parties using your drone with your knowledge are also covered.

  • Take-off weight

Basic and Premium tariffs: coverage up to a take-off weight of five kilograms (250 grams in the Saver tariff).

  • Commercial use (business liability)

Extend your business liability policy with a drone/copter module, covered up to a take-off weight of 25 kilograms.

What is not covered

  • Damage to or loss of your own drone

Liability insurance covers damage you cause to others, not damage to your own aircraft or its theft/loss.

  • Drones over 5 kg under personal liability

For higher take-off weights outside commercial use, a separate specific policy is required.

Frequently asked questions

Why do I need drone insurance?

It covers damage caused by your drone, for example if a gust of wind blows it into a window. Damage to the drone itself is usually not covered — dedicated all-risk policies exist for that.

What damage does it cover?

Generally liability damage caused by the drone, depending on factors like weight. Under our Basic or Premium personal liability tariff, drones up to 5 kg take-off weight are covered; the Saver tariff covers up to 250 grams.

What does drone insurance cost?

Usually no extra cost, since drones up to a certain weight are already included in your personal liability policy. Only an all-risk policy covering the drone itself would carry an extra cost.

Is drone insurance mandatory in Germany?

Yes, since 2017 drone owners are legally required to have liability insurance for their drone, both for private and commercial use, under the German Air Traffic Act (LuftVG).

Do I need a drone pilot license?

Yes. Since January 1, 2024, certain EU remote pilot certificates are required depending on drone type and weight, such as the A1/A3 competency certificate or the A2 remote pilot certificate.

Do I need to register my drone?

Yes, since January 1, 2024, Remote-ID registration applies to most drone classes with a camera. Toy drones and models under 250 grams without a camera are usually exempt.

Where can I fly my drone?

Restricted zones exist near airports, hospitals, military or police areas, private property, city centers and nature reserves. Check the official flight zone map before taking off.
