Basic Ability Insurance

Basic Ability Insurance

Protect your essential abilities, regardless of your profession

Basic ability insurance (Grundfähigkeitsversicherung) protects you against income loss if you lose a fundamental ability, such as walking, hearing, or lifting weight. Unlike occupational disability insurance, it does not depend on your profession: it covers the loss of the ability itself.

Benefits of this insurance

Income from the loss of a single ability

Monthly income payment is triggered by the loss of just one insured basic ability.

Independent of your profession

It doesn't matter whether you can still work fully or partially: the income is paid for the loss of the ability itself.

Three coverage levels

Choose between the Basic, Plus, and Premium packages, depending on the number of insured abilities.

Additional modules

You can extend coverage with protection for serious illnesses and/or psychological conditions.

What is covered

  • Loss of an insured ability

If you predictably and permanently lose an ability included in your package, you receive the agreed monthly income.

  • Waiting period by package

Income is triggered after six months (Plus and Premium packages) or twelve months (Basic package) of continuous loss.

  • Income until retirement

If the loss is permanent, income is paid until the start of your retirement pension or the end of the contract.

  • Serious illness and mental health modules

You can supplement the policy with specific coverage for serious illnesses and psychological conditions.

What is not covered

  • Short-term temporary losses

Coverage requires the loss of ability to be predictably permanent, not a temporary limitation.

  • Abilities not included in the chosen package

Only the abilities listed in the chosen package (Basic, Plus, or Premium) are covered.
