During a weekend trip, Karl docks his boat at a jetty. The next morning he finds the high-value outboard motor stolen despite being secured. The insurance covers the stolen motor.
Grounding with hull damage
Leaving a shallow bay, the Berger family fails to spot an unmarked underwater obstacle. The boat runs aground, damaging the hull and letting in water. The insurance covers the repairs.
Total loss from fire
Albert's boat catches fire due to a technical fault in the engine room and burns completely. Thanks to his insurance, he receives the replacement value of the boat.
Frequently asked questions
What is hull insurance?
Unlike liability insurance, hull insurance also covers damage to your own boat, not just to third parties.
What exactly does the boat insurance pay?
It protects against total loss or partial damage to your privately used vessel, for example from natural forces, an accident or theft.
What determines the price?
The type of vessel, year built, engine power, the chosen plan, and whether you opt for seasonal coverage.
What happens if I sell my boat?
The hull insurance transfers with all rights and obligations to the buyer; both buyer and insurer have a right of termination.
In which areas is the insurance valid?
Within Europe on land, on inland waters, the North and Baltic Seas, the Mediterranean and the Atlantic coast up to 200 nautical miles including the Canary Islands, with some exclusions such as the Black Sea.
